This is the second stage of the Bighorn painting. Since I spent the day catching up on yard work neglected while traveling, there was not much time to paint. I concentrated on the anatomy of the animals and the light and subtle colors of twilight. Twilight is such a mystical, even magical time, especial with animals in the wild such as these. It seems to me they have a special sensitivity that we humans lack or have lost. I see that in this painting as it is developing and hope it comes through in the reproduction and posting of the image online.
I think this may be one of those subjects that I will have to do as a larger scale painting in order to convey the power of that idea. At any rate my next and probably final stage will be to work on the textures and feelings of movement and space or depth surrounding the animals.
