Report From China
My wife and I left for China two days after the earthquake in Sichuan Province . We flew to Shanghai on the east coast of China and have visited many places two or three hours from Shanghai .
My wife has relatives who live in Sichuan Province and they are all OK. As you all probably know from watching the news, there was a lot of devastation north of Chengdu and tens of thousands of people died in the earthquake there. We had planned to go to Chengdu , but have delayed or travel there until things settle down.
Our travels here have taken us to some of the small water villages near Shanghai and to places like HangZhou near a place called Thousand Island Lakes . We are also doing some photo shoots in a lot of these areas and I hope to share more of this with you after we return.
We are now in Beijing visiting some of our friends here and spent a day at the Emperor’s Summer Place. I’m always blown away by the size of the cities in China and the vast population here. There are more people in one city here than in the whole state of Michigan back home. Another way to put it is, for every person in the USA there are five Chinese people in China . In other words, in basically the same land mass area as America , China has five times as may people.
